David Willis was born and raised in Pennsylvania. He studied painting at the Philadelphia Academy of Fine Arts and studied 18th Century furniture and building restoration by serving apprenticeships under recognized Old World Masters and practicing in the field for over ten years.
After moving to South Florida to marry, he continued his restoration work with the complete renovation of two historic homes. He also found time to pursue his love for painting and furniture building. He competed in various art shows and charitable events showcasing his art and craftsmanship. These efforts generated high awards as well as local recognition and accolades.
David and family moved to Sequim in 2012 when David began in earnest to rekindle his dedication to painting. He became a member of the Blue Whole Gallery for several years and served on the board of the Gallery. He regularly shares his artistic talents by volunteering at Olympic Theatre Arts, designing and building sets for the community theatre. He joins other local artists frequently to study figure drawing and plein air painting and works at his home studio throughout the year.
David was honored in 2015 by the Port Angeles Fine Arts Center “Paint the Peninsula” jury with an Honorable Mention for his plein air work, “Hollyhocks”. Also, he was chosen for inclusion in the 2018 CVG Show in Bremerton’s Collective Visions Gallery with a monochromatic gouache painting titled ‘Lauren’. He is very happy to be working as an artist in the Pacific Northwest.
